Pulse Weekly report # 1

Monday, 23 August 2010 15:16

Hi, everyone, I'm enjoying a (very well) earned vacations, one month of goold old lazying around doing absolutely nothing, the hardest work I've done was playing Assassins Creed 2 (finished yesterday), I'll have to make a post about this game but it will be for tomorrow.

Now for the weekly news: For those that follow the Spartan Framework, its now a fully documented version 1.0. It has an example on how to use it, and I'm doing the next ones soon. It has javadocs and Im proud of what Spartan has become. Already lots of ideas come for version 2.0, but I will only begin that version after ending the Pulse.

Also, I'm almost finished with the tutorial for SlickOut, a break out clone using Slick2d, Il'll be posting this in slick's wiki this week, I had to re write the whole thing to be only about slick2d and not about Spartan.

After this, I tying my last loose end, that is called FURY, a project I started one year ago with a slick2d forum dweller as myself that promised to make a multi threaded java game engine. It was going fine until my work life went downhill and I stoped having time for everything, like foxhole as well. Its tought to be a father of two with a full time job and bills to pay and then try to get time for other projects. I was also guilty of trying to do everything and ended up doing nothing.

Talking about the pulse, this was a game that has been on the back of my mind for a couple of time, and since I'm so broke that I cant afford an artist, I had to develop something without the need for an artist, and this was the only game I had in mind. Also I love doing stuff like this.

The game now starts, and we can create new upgrades for our shapes and then create troops, after I'm done with slickout I'll add real time combat.

The pulse

Saturday, 14 August 2010 17:51

I have finally started production of my first game. I have been waiting to get some money for paying an artist and always postponed my first game, so I was really happy when I was fiddling a bit with theGimp and came up with this:

This is the only art you'll find in my next game, the pulse. I decided that I could not hold this indie game stuff anymore and I am 100% commited to foxhole. I've matured spartan framework A LOT, it can read full games from an XML file now, it has collision detection, and I am implementing a really cool editor that will enable me to create any 2d game with that editor.

Anyway, the pulse will be a RTS (real time strategy) game that will hold your micro managment skills hostage, you can count on triangle, squares, pentagons and hexagons commiting genocide against each other, and of course those 6 little shapes beneath the name that will enhance each of the main polygons.

I'll try something I never did before and as soon as I have anything running I'll make a small applet (available for registrated users) and let you all try it so that you leave some comments on it. I'll use those comments to improve the game.

I'm really looking forward to this game, I just hope I can get you interested in this as well.

Screenies

Hi everyone,

Finally I'm at my new house with internet available, this is the middle of nowhere but I like it.

Sorry for last week absence, with the birth of my second baby and no internet I was cut off from everything.

But today I give you a small glimpse of the game:

Its a basic top down shooter that I would like to upgrade to a full Elite - Frontier like game, with a 2d top down universe to explore.

The artwork is for now copied from "Tyrian" but I'll change it soon enough, for now I just wanted some good looking ships for the prototype.
